This is Stevie Wonder’s 12th album on the Motown label, released August 7th 1970. This was Wonder’s first album on which he was given producer credit, though he actually only produced two of the tracks and co-produced three more. He wrote or co-wrote seven of the tracks. This will go down as one of my all-time favorite Motown albums, featuring such hits as “Heaven Help Us All”, “Never Had A Dream Come True”, “Sugar”, the title track of course and the Lennon/McCartney tune “We Can Work It Out”. Stevie really gives the Beatles classic some serious soul. It’s not to be missed, but then again this entire album falls into that category. It truly is one that all serious music fans should have in their collection. It’s a timeless classic that is both at home “on the turntable” as well as in the digital age of music. It’s albums like this that make you say, “they don’t make ’em like they used”.
